Teachings for the most part deal with what gets in the way of the (as yet) unknown. Love, Peace, Truth, Presence are all different words indicating a specific place, a level sometimes referred to as 'heaven'. There's really not so much you can say about it other than it's THERE. And if you were there 'with it' life would be altogether different for you. To talk about it when you're not there may be even worse than useless because that can trigger all kinds of pictures within imagination, which is the only functional 'conceptual' we have at the lower level. The real issue is not pictures - it is essential reality. We have been conditioned to live in pictures, and that we can say much about!

'YOU HAVE TO DROP EVERYTHING'!
How much have you been reading in your past - words, words, and then words, ideas, ideas, ideas, suggestions, do's and don'ts - so what, here we have some more - DROP EVERYTHING - oh shit!
Well, what DOES it mean - or should you have stopped reading back there when you first hit those words?
YOU drop everything but IT still remains in place. What keeps IT and EVERYTHING ELSE in place is the totality of 'complexities' both physical and 'social'. Guess what - you may die but life will still go on!
You be a 'yea sayer', a 'yes sayer' - people do exactly as they please ANYWAY - or, to be more exact, they do the only thing they can in any given circumstance. Be a 'yes sayer', you don't change a bloody thing essential anyway -
say yes!
DROP EVERYTHING -
you bet - it means drop the IMPORTANCE, the assumed importance of things and happenings - they'll happen anyways, you can play your part, you can do what comes naturally and comfortably, but begin to SEE that no imagination, no projection of the future, EVER develops into a living reality - NEVER!

We experience a very thin slice of reality through the senses. People sometime talk of 'Ha'olam Haba' (The Hereafter), which is the Greater Reality. But what is after our own death also exists now. There is a whole range of subtleties going on, now, at a number of levels. Our emotional state and our thought waves have repercussions in areas of which we have no idea.

What is Reality? There are so many ideas around! To some of them you say: ’Yes, that’s true, and it’s right, and I would like to...’ etc. But, now, we need one answer - one answer for everything! It doesn’t do you any good to go on figuring, figuring, figuring! We are living in a ’One Dynamic Unity’ - everything is inter-active. Those ’separations’ that we are struggling with, have no meaning in themselves!

But people live in words! They think that if they use a word, it becomes a reality. That might have been the mistake before the mistake! It’s full of self-importance, full of fear of just ‘being’. Everyone wants to be ‘special’! They’re so busy being special that they can’t just be themself - their deepest, most Real Self. Can a man not be at least as calm as a dog? Dogs are closer to God than most people are. First of all ‘to be’, is not to be caught in the agony of self-importance!

’What’s the difference between a question and an answer?’ And the answer to that question is - ’a question can be asked at anytime!’ That’s the difference. A question can be asked anytime - answers are subject to other ’delicacies’, so to speak.

But it’s a very big question: is a human being worth anything, really? That’s really a question. Is he worth anything, or are we ’just here’? Because otherwise it’s just as much pleasure as possible and little pain as possible. That’s about it. That’s a life? What are we struggling for all the time, just to keep moving? Just to have a little bit less pain and a little bit more pleasure? For me the swing from the pleasure to the pain is not interesting anymore, not interesting.
You see, these questions about ’why’ and ’value’ have a particular urgency in the days we’re living in. They’re not new questions, these are what is called Existential Questions. They can be more or less conscious but they’re always there. Everyone justifies their life in some way. The mechanical forces in the world now are so strong and so supported by governments, industry, high-tech, media. The demonic, selfish, self-serving, self-stimulating! What Gurdjieff used to call: ’the evil god self-calming.’ It’s such a dynamic devil - squeezing the humanity out of humanity. Humanity is now so dry.

Our usual, ‘normal’ thinking has been totally conditioned and formed by a mixture of words, notions, speculations and as if logic of our general society. That includes contemporary ‘wisdom’ as well as ‘facts’ from recent times to the ancient past; from stories of violence to stories of prophecy. All this comes together mechanically in each individual and ends off forming the corrupted framework that they do their thinking from – and ‘value’ this, that or the next thing.

There is a tremendous difference between that kind of thinking and the type of thinking which could occur if one were in a meditative, quiet, sensitive, emotionally and physically aware relationship to the moment. There the mystery and magnificence of life and existence is so overwhelmingly obvious that new questions tend to arise relative to AMAZING REALITY.

Such as:

WHERE are we?
Where did we COME FROM?
HOW LONG are we here for?
Is there ANYTHING
worthwhile, valuable, lasting
that we can accomplish or contribute to
in the short time that we are alive?

How to know the difference between ‘being’ and imagination, to be awake, to remember ourselves and be observant? How can we become full human beings?
If you understand that these are real questions, then you are open to see things that might help in that regard. Then you’re open to ‘response’ - you’ve got the ‘call’. The response is conditioned by the call. The response cannot be bigger than the call. Call a little bit - the response is a little bit. Life is like that.
“Love is the pulse that happens as feedback between call and response”.

People are so busy… how to put it… keeping balance on their 'personal tightrope', that they don't have much alternative other than to react to it all. Within the usual dynamics of life nobody 'acts' – everyone is just reacting!
